In February 1994 I started an article in Cornerstone Connections (p18-25) thus: "A police officer has no authority without a badge. A judge has no authority outside a courtroom. An author has no authority unless his or her work causes a mental revolution or identifies strongly with the plight or philosophy of its readers..." Dr. Waite, as a scientist and educator, has benefited from the keen interest he honed as a child in the lush and varied landscape of the parish of St James in Jamaica, where the scenery was never monotonous, water was plentiful, and the soil was fertile, with education accessible from a very early age. My move to Harlesden, London, at the age of 16 simply provided more pathways to diverse educational institutions where striving to achieve my ambition, stamped in my passport as 'To become a Doctor,' became a priority. In June 1981, I was awarded a PhD for original work done in Chemistry at Staffordshire University, UK.
